A Prayer for Everyday..........

God, grant us the serenity to accept things we cannot change,
Courage to change the things that we can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
Appreciation for all that we have,
Patience fot the things that take time,
And tolerance for those with different struggles.
Freedom to live beyond the limitations of our past days,
Ability to feel your love for us and our love for each others,
And the strength to get up and try again even when we feel it is hopeless.http://www.afterpsychotherapy.com/grief-and-the-grieving-process/

The Seasons......A poem in loving memory of my mother who passed away February 27th, 2012

The Seasons

The seasons come
The seasons go
The seasons run
The seasons flow

The seasons shorten
The seasons lengthen
The seasons dimmer
The seasons brighten

The seasons past
The seasons now
The seasons gone
The seasons bow

The seasons bright
The seasons dim
The seasons light
The seasons grim

The seasons sad
The seasons gay
The seasons bad
The seasons stay

I wrote this poem for you, Mom.
I miss you every day.
Your loving daughter,
Lorraine

"There You Go Again"

To quote Ronald Reagan, "There you go again".............

http://www.newser.com/story/155636/wisconsin-republican-some-girls-rape-easy.html

And here I go again..............I'm tired of these "men" who keep opening their mouths and re-inforcing the stereotypical rape victim who "lies" about rape.
Have women "lied" about rape? I'm sure there have been cases .....and it makes it hard on the victims who have been raped. Do I condemn these women for lying? You  bet I do!  But the women who have been raped are presumed guilty from the start. It is her fault "for dressing like that". "She asked for it." " She enjoyed it."  "She came onto me." "She should have protected herself better." "What was she doing out, jogging, walking, hiking, etc.?" "Why was she drinking?" "She had consensual sex with someone else.......How do we know this was not consensual?" "All women enjoy a little rape now and then"...."If the woman didn't resist, she must have wanted it".......

I am tired about all the lies about rape. Let's tell the truth about rape........................... Children  of both sexes are raped. Men are raped. Rape is across the whole life span. It happens in marriage, out of marriage, dating, or whether  one is heterosexual, gay, or transgendered.
Rape is not about sexual gratification.....it's about power and humiliation of the rape victim. The anger of the rapist is transferred to the victim and it is a soul destroying event in the victim's life. Some rape victims are murdered or severely beaten during the assault and that potential exists with every assault, hence why  some victims don't fight back...........they are trying to save their life.

Enough of these so called "men" and the lies they spew forth about rape. Please, shut up!

Blatant Pro-Life Hypocrite!

Oh, the utter hypocrisy of pro-life congress critters!

Read this and weep, all you rabid pro-lifers out there!

http://www.alternet.org/election-2012/anti-abortion-congressman-pressured-mistress-terminate-pregnancy

I have searched the pro-life websites and blogs, but cannot find a mention. Hmmmmm.........."liberal press", so it must be false?  Is the AP a "liberal press" outlet?

So, this happened 10 years ago and is  just not valid? This man has introduced pro-life legislation in Congress this past couple of years with this in his history. Oh, I see, no taxpayer funded abortion for women who need help  in procuring an abortion, but different rules apply for his mistress.........

Todd Rokita's "Issues"........

Todd Rokita's "issue" of "Voter Fraud".........

https://rokita.house.gov/press-release/rokita-miller-introduce-voter-registration-integrity-act

So people registered to vote in Michigan are going to drive to Illinois, Iowa, Tennessee, Pooster's Froth, Wyoming,  to vote on election day? Gas prices are pretty high these days in case you didn't notice, Congressperson Rokita!

Pro Life's REAL Agenda

Pro- Lifers REAL Agenda is to ban all forms of contraception for women in  America.

Think about it, folks!

No way to prevent pregnancy....is that what we want for our daughters, our grand daughters, our sisters, aunts or mothers?

Read this link.........http://www.jillstanek.com/2012/09/cuckoo-for-contraceptives/

I think women have the right to plan their pregnancies!
Here's the link to the Huffington Post article............http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/21/birth-control-study-over-2-in-5-women-dont-use-contraception_n_1904802.

Email Me - Thank You | Congressman Todd Rokita

Email Me - Thank You | Congressman Todd Rokita

I just e-mailed my Congressperson Todd Rokita, thanking him for claryfying in letter there should be no abortion in cases of rape.......In case you think that makes me a pro-lifer, you are mistaken.
Anyone who supports the woman carrying to term a pregnancy that results from rape is as evil as the rapist!

I will NOT be voting for Todd Rokita  who supports the continued suffering and humiliation of the rape victim by forcing her by law to carry the pregnancy to term.

Akin appears to have picked up conclusions from 1972 article now hotly disputed : Stltoday

Akin appears to have picked up conclusions from 1972 article now hotly disputed : Stltoday

The Nazis tested this hypothesis "by selecting women who were about to ovulate and sending them to the gas chambers, only to bring them back after their realistic mock-killing, to see what the effect this had on their ovulatory patterns. An extremely high percentage of these women did not ovulate."

The above quote is from the article that is linked.

Again, I reiterate, what physician would use this to bolster his argument?

I am a registered nurse and find this medically unethical.........

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Unbelievable..........

"In a 1972 article, Dr. Fred Mecklenburg argued that pregnancy is unlikely from rape. That article has influenced two generations of anti-abortion activists with the hope to build a medical case to ban all abortions without any exception. The article uses an argument claiming experiments in Nazi death camps had shown women are less likely to ovulate after trauma."[11]

The above is from a Wikipedia article about Todd Akin and the "rape" controversy. Wow! This medical doctor uses "experiments in Nazi death camps" to bolster his arguments! Very professional!
What trauma did these women suffer in these Nazi death camps? Must we speculate, or is the trauma defined within the article? This makes me sick at my stomach that a medical professional would use this to forward his own political views at the expense of these women!

More Food for Political Thought.....

Sorry , Folks....This blog just became political!

I cannot stand by and say nothing while the Republicans try to re-define rape as "legitimate" or "forcible".

Hope.........

and gratitude for the rain we received this morning. If we can only get a weekly rain like this morning, it would go a long way towards breaking this drought. We are expecting a hay delivery sometime this week, so that will be a relief, also......

Weather Blues

Talk about too much of a good thing! We've had too much sun and still no rain....... Temperature is expected to hit 92 or 94, today. It is forecast to be in the 90's all week without rain......
I heard this morning on the local news channel that Illinois got some rain and it was raining in Ohio. The entire state of  Indiana was passed over without any rain. Some parts of the state are negative 11 inches of rain and there is talk of canceling Fourth of July fireworks.

Charlie

Our breeding ram for this year is Charlie. Thanks to our daughter, he is here and he is a Dor Galen ram with different bloodlines to add to our breed.  We think he is a fine looking lad who will give us more full blooded Dor Galen lambs. He will be bred to our full blooded Dor Galen ewes from 2010 and 2011.

Our pasture looks like it is August, not June. I'm trying not to think about feeding hay this summer, or what the second cutting will be like................

Fuzzy Wuzzy Was a Sheep.........

Here is our one and only English Southdown, Fuzzy Wuzzy. She is quite a character and one very friendly sheepy! As friendly a sheep as anyone could wish for, we are convinced she must be a former bottle baby. She arrived last August and has become a permanent sheep resident at Dor Galen.

New Farm Sign

Our newly painted farm sign, (painted by me), is now up on our hen house thanks to hubby. We are hoping for more protection for the sign as its former location near the highway resulted in alot of damage.

England!

More English Than I realized.....

I have just discovered that both my parent's  surnames are English. It is no surprise that both the breeds we are using hail from the U.K.!

From Dorset, where are Horned Dorsets originally hail.........

Dor Galen Sheep

Miracle Lambs

March 2nd, 2012, the evening of my mother's funeral, we returned home to find Mild Thing in labor with twins.  My hubby discovered her in the barn and had me take a look.  The lambs head was large and there were no forefeet presenting under his chin. I washed her off, lubed and gloved up, but I couldn't feel his forelegs. "Oh, no! Mom! ", I prayed.  Hubby and I were desperate.  " Go get Hilary.....
She has smaller hands." This was my mother's voice I heard, so I immediately got Hilary, our youngest daughter who had been with us the last 24 hours of Mom's life. She and Chris, her significant other, had attended the funeral and driven back with us after my mother's burial.

Hilary and Chris came out to the barn and we briefly explained what was going on. The lamb had both forelegs tucked underneath him. She lubed and gloved up. She looked  directly into my grief stricken eyes and said, " Don't worry, Mom. I'm getting this lamb for you. I won't let him die the day you buried Grandma!" She told me she prayed to her Grandma while she was trying to get the lambs forelegs. She also turned to Chris to get new gloves and yelled, "Glove me! I'm going in!"

Our daughter worked for 45 minutes as we turned Mild Thing on her side to deliver that lamb. She kept suctioning the lamb to make sure his airway was clear. Hilary got him!!!!!!! She named him Charlie after my mother's oldest brother.

Charlie also had a twin sister Hilary named Ruthie after my mom and her grandma. She was delivered by Jacquie and Tim , our shepherd friends , after they arrived.

So there you have the story of our "miracle lambs"..........Hilary made us promise they would never be sold or slaughtered and we had no problem promising her their safe keeping!

In Memoriam

My mother, Ruth Agnes Turner, aged 84, passed away on our farm February 27th, 2012. She came here on February 6th, 2012. She got to see and name our first Horned Dorset ewe lamb, Sierra, who was born February 16th......

I miss her so much and I will love her always......

I am thankful for the hospice team who helped with her care and comfort her last three weeks of life. I could not have done it without their support and the support of my dear husband.....

A link .......thank you, Michael for your concern and care.
